Our Origins

Shellharbour City Arts Society was established in 2012 when a small group of people recognised the need for art within the community, a place to encourage, nurture and recognise established and emerging artists.
Jeanette Riley (Bachelor of Creative Arts-Hons) gathered with a small group of artists and formed SCAS at the Albion Park Show.
The Society focused on establishing a permanent arts dwelling and the Butter Factory at Albion Park Rail was targeted. However, after many years of fundraising, it became apparent it was beyond their means.
A decision was made to move ahead as a Society and re-focus; creating a group that reflects and supports the talents and variety of artists in the Shellharbour region.
Today we have a strong membership drawn from the Shellharbour District, representing many disciplines in the art world. The demographic within the group varies greatly but the common thread that connects all its members is, a love of creativity, a passion for art and a desire to nurture and encourage others. Shellharbour City Arts Society enjoys regular exhibitions, social gatherings, and meetings. Workshops are offered to all age groups and abilities from time to time.

We are a non-profit organisation managed by volunteers who actively organise regular exhibitions and other opportunities. We all share a love of art.
The Shellharbour City Art Society was inaugurated in 2012 ‘to enrich the arts in Shellharbour City and surrounding areas of the Illawarra.‘
